The growth of sites like YouTube is phenomenal and online video is now just a normal part of the internet experience. Last year, Nielsen reported that 72% of internet users regularly view videos online.

Read the following excerpt from my book ‘The NZ Small Business Superhero’s Internet Marketing Handbook’ and discover how article marketing can help increase incoming links to your website…

Videos: The videos you produce can showcase your expertise in your field, so are a valuable addition to your website content. An additional benefit is that video results are also now commonly included in the main Google search results.

Your videos can be distributed to many video sites including: www.youtube.com, www. dailymotion.com, www.vimeo.com, www.tumblr.com and www.mobypicture.com. If you don’t want to spend the time submitting the videos yourself you can outsource this task to specialist services such as: www.videosubmission.com www.submitinme.com and www.trafficgeyser.com.

Social media websites: There are a number of social media websites such as Squidoo.com, Hubpages.com, Wikispaces.com and Livejournal.com where you can set up profiles and link back to your website. Each profile you set up should cover a different aspect of your business so each one is unique. You may also consider setting up a Facebook page and and Twitter account for your business, which can both be healthy sources of incoming links. Facebook, especially, should form an important part of a modern small business marketing strategy and we talk more about Facebook specifically in the final chapter 2.3: Dialogue.

Press releases: If you have something newsworthy – such as the launch of a new website for your business – you can distribute a press release using the following services: www.pr.co.nz, www.freepressrelease.com, www.freepressindex.com and www.prwindow.com.

Social bookmarking: Social bookmarking can be a very effective way of driving awareness and building incoming links. Social bookmarking sites allow you to organise, store, manage and search for bookmarks of resources online. Unlike file sharing, the resources themselves aren’t shared, just a link and a description of the resource. This way you can set up accounts at the main social bookmarking sites and set up links back to your website’s pages. But don’t just bookmark your own content – mark and rate a range of pages you find informative and relevant to your areas of business, as this helps others find them, and they in turn can find you. Some of the best known social bookmarking sites are: www.delicious.com , www.stumbleupon.com, www.reddit.com and www.digg.com.
