By placing the most important facts and information at the top of the content, the copy is more accessible to readers who are skimming.
Using this method, the most important fact is included in the headline, followed by the next most important fact in the intro paragraph. Other facts and background information form the basis of the following paragraphs in order of importance.
This process ensures you don’t “bury the lead”, which is what happens when the main point is buried down deep in the story.
Unfortunately, untrained writers often “bury the lead” because they like to build up to the main point. However many readers will have already tuned out, meaning they never get exposed to the most important information.
