Read the following excerpt from my book ‘The NZ Small Business Superhero’s Marketing Handbook’ to understand the main legal requirements you must meet for your email marketing campaigns …
The main points to remember of the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007 which governs the sending of electronic communications are:
- Firstly, you must have the “consent” of those you are emailing.
- Secondly, your email must contact a “functional unsubscribe facility”. This means there has to be a way for your readers to easily remove themselves from your email list if they no longer wish to receive your emails.
- Thirdly, the name and contact details of the person authorising the message must be included in the email.
So provided you get the permission of your readers to send email to them, include an unsubscribe facility, and include your name and contact details in the email, you should be good to go.
